This study focused on seventh-grade students, specifically those in class VII.2, which consisted of 34 individuals. The classroom action research (CAR) approach was used in this study. The data were collected using an observation checklist and tests. The researcher analyzed the data using a combination of qualitative and quantitative data, as well as the observation checklist. Furthermore, the researcher assessed the test based on the mean score for each cycle in qualitative data. Based on qualitative data, this study found that the 5W+1H questing approach and learning process increased students' classroom reading behavior. The observation checklist showed that the student's performance improved between the first and second cycles. The quantitative data results also demonstrated an improvement in the students' reading comprehension mean scores between the first and second cycles. The study suggests that implementing the 5W+1H questioning strategy can significantly improve students’ reading comprehension.</p> Fitria Tokan Erwin Pohan Sugianto Copyright (c) 2025 English Education Journal https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/ 2025-11-28 2025-11-28 40 47 10.55340/e2j.v11i2.1883 IMPROVING STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY ON DESCRIPTIVE TEXT BY USING WORDWALL MEDIA AT THE SEVENTH GRADE https://ejournal.lppmunidayan.ac.id/index.php/english/article/view/1886 <p>Penelitian tindakan kelas ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata siswa pada teks deskriptif melalui penggunaan media Wordwall. Penelitian dilaksanakan di SMPN 11 Tanjungpinang dengan subjek sebanyak 34 siswa kelas VII pada tahun ajaran 2024/2025. Latar belakang penelitian ini adalah rendahnya kemampuan siswa dalam menguasai kosakata bahasa Inggris, yang berdampak pada kesulitan dalam memahami teks deskriptif. Penelitian dilakukan dalam dua siklus yang masing-masing terdiri dari tahap perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi, dan refleksi. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah daftar periksa observasi dan tes kosakata. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan yang signifikan dalam penguasaan kosakata siswa. Pada siklus pertama, 50,00% siswa mencapai Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM). Setelah dilakukan perbaikan tindakan pada siklus kedua melalui kombinasi media Wordwall, diskusi kelompok, dan penggunaan gambar, persentase ketuntasan meningkat menjadi 79,41%. Hasil observasi checklist juga menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan media Wordwall berhasil meningkatkan partisipasi siswa di kelas. Pada Siklus 2, partisipasi siswa mencapai 76%. This research aims to identify the English learning needs of STT Migas Cilacap Students. The majors are Petroleum Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, and Oil and Gas Processing. A questionnaire was used as a data collection instrument, which was distributed to 45 students of STT Migas Cilacap. Besides, student interviews will also be done in this research to support the data results. The results of this learning needs analysis show that the main goal of students learning English is to support their self-development and communication with foreign speakers. Therefore, they place more emphasis on speaking skills. Although other language skills are also considered important to be developed, all of them must be in line with their professional career development. Then, they prefer to study by doing exercises in English learning. After that, their difficulties in English learning are in grammar and speaking fluently. They often to do exercise in writing and speaking so they can speak fluently with the correct grammar. It is hoped that the results of this learning needs analysis can be used as a guide in the development of English teaching materials for STT Migas Cilacap students.</p> Sutri Windiarti Aan Subekti Proklamanto Copyright (c) 2025 English Education Journal https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/ 2025-11-28 2025-11-28 57 66 10.55340/e2j.v11i2.1960 THE EFFECTS OF LECTURERS’ TEACHING STRATEGY AND STUDENTS’ LEARNING STYLE ON THEIR READING PERFORMANCE https://ejournal.lppmunidayan.ac.id/index.php/english/article/view/1983 <p>Problem in this research was whether there is a positive and significant effects of teaching reading strategy and students’ learning style on reading performance. The objective of the research was to measure is there any positive significance the effect of teaching reading strategy and students’ learning style on reading performance at English education study program, Dayanu Ikhsanuddin University. This research method was survey design using path analysis approach. Population in this research was all of third semester students at English Education Study Program, Dayanu Ikhsanuddin University with total 40 students which was taken using total sampling technique. The instrument used was a questionnaire (Teaching Reading Strategy &amp; Perceptual Learning Style) and test (TOEFL). This research found that there were: 1) the score of each lecturers’ teaching strategy questionnaire were 80.1% Reciprocal Teaching Strategy, 79% for SQ3R Strategy, 78.5% for Scaffolding Strategy, 77.3% for Think-Aloud Strategy and 75.9% for QARs Strategy. It indicated that one strategy (Reciprocal Teaching Strategy) is always category and four strategies (SQ3R Strategy, Scaffolding Strategy, Think-Aloud Strategy and QARs Strategy) are often category applied by EFL lecturers in teaching reading, 2) the average of each learning style questionnaire were 4.2 for Auditory, 4.2 for Kinesthetic and 4.0 for Visual Learning Style used by students, based on the high percentage of questionnaire, there was 85% or 34 students in major learning style category, it meant the students’ learning style was major learning style, 3) based on the high percentage of reading performance test, there was 65% or 26 students in fair category, it suggests the students’ reading performance was fair, 4) based on the result of hypothesis testing using independent sample T-test obtained fcount 7.951 and obtained significant value 0.001 &lt; 0.005, with a positive effect 0.301 or 30.1% therefore Ha was accepted and H0 was rejected. Thus, it can be concluded that reading performance can be affected by teaching reading strategy and students’ learning style on third semester students at English Education Study Program, Dayanu Ikhsanuddin University.</p> Irawan La Dunifa Syamsul Una Copyright (c) 2025 English Education Journal 2025-11-28 2025-11-28 67 86 10.55340/e2j.v11i2.1983 THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MOTIVATION AND ACTIVENESS ON STUDENTS READING COMPREHENSION AT SMP NEGERI 3 BATUATAS https://ejournal.lppmunidayan.ac.id/index.php/english/article/view/1981 <p>The research questions of this research were: 1) whether there was any significant relationship between of motivation toward reading comprehension on SMP Negeri 3 Batuatas; 2) whether there was any significant relationship between of activeness toward reading comprehension on SMP Negeri 3 Batuatas; and 3) whether there was any significant relationship between of motivation and activeness toward reading comprehension on SMP Negeri 3 Batuatas. This reserach aimed to determine the relationship between of motivation toward reading comprehension, the relationship between of activeness toward reading comprehension, the relationship between of motivation and activeness toward reading comprehension on SMP Negeri 3 Batuatas.</p> <p>This research used a quantitative approach using the ex-post facto methods. The subject of this research were 30 respondents of the eight grade students at SMP Negeri 3 Batuatas. The data collection instruments used were questionnare and test. Data analysis in this research used data analysis techniques descriptive statistics and inferential statistics.</p> <p>Based on the results of the reserach, this research had 3 conclusions. First there was no significant relationship of motivation toward reading comprehension. this conclusion was based on statistical analysis, where the significant value was 0,471. Because the significant value was greater than α (0,05), it meant that the null hypothesis was accepted and the allternative hypothesis was rejected. Second, there was no significant relationship of activeness toward reading comprhension. This conclusion was based on statistical analysis, where the significant value was 0,797. Because the significant value was greater than α (0,05), it meant that the null hypothesis was accepted and the alternative hypothesis was rejected. Third, there was no significant relationship of motivation and activeness toward reading comprehension. this conclusion was based on statistical analysis, where the significant value was 0,733. Because the significant value was greater than α (0,05), it meant that the null hypothesis was accepted and the alternative hypothesis was rejected.</p> Husni Husni Wa Jeliana Muhammad Harun Copyright (c) 2025 English Education Journal https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/ 2025-11-28 2025-11-28 87 93 10.55340/e2j.v11i2.1981 EMPOWERING STUDENTS’ WRITING ABILITY THROUGH ANIMATION MOVIES: A CLASSROOM STUDY AT SMK NEGERI 1 BAUBAU https://ejournal.lppmunidayan.ac.id/index.php/english/article/view/1984 <p>This research explored the use of Animation Movies as a medium to enhance the narrative writing skills of eleventh-grade students in the Accountancy Department at SMK Negeri 1 Baubau. The main aim of this experimental study was to determine whether Animation Movies have a significant impact on improving students’ narrative writing abilities.<br>The study employed a pre-test–post-test control group design. The population consisted of all eleventh-grade Accountancy Department students. A total of 50 students were selected as the sample using cluster random sampling. One group of twenty-five students received instruction through Animation Movies, while the remaining twenty-five students were taught using conventional methods. A writing test served as the instrument for data collection.<br>The results indicated that Animation Movies had a significant positive effect on students’ narrative writing performance. At the 0.05 significance level and with 38 degrees of freedom, the t-count of 1.863 exceeded the t-table value of 1.684.
