Abstract

The aims of this study are to find out: (1) Application of the Problem-Based Learning model in social studies learning in class VII at SMP Negeri 9 Baubau, and (2) Improving social studies learning outcomes for class VII students of SMP Negeri 9 Baubau through the application of the Problem-Based Learning model. This was a classroom action research. The subjects of this study were 20 students of class VII SMP Negeri 9 Baubau and the subjects studied were learning activities and learning outcomes through a problem-based learning model. The data in this study were collected using research instruments in the form of evaluation tests and observation sheets. The data analysis technique in this study used quantitative descriptive analysis. The results showed that: (1) The application of a problem-based learning model could increase social studies learning activities for class VII students of SMP Negeri 9 Baubau, with a percentage of the implementation of student learning activities at the end of cycle II of 93%, and (2) The application of a problem-based learning model could improve social studies learning outcomes for class VII students of SMP Negeri 9 Baubau, with a percentage of student learning completeness at the end of cycle II of 90%.
